The ancient capital of Yorkshire is York, one of the great cities of the medieval world. York Minister

The Minster that we know today took about 250 years to build and is renowned as an artistic and architectural masterpiece. Underneath the Cathedral you can explore the Undercroft, Treasury and Crypt. Here you will find Roman, Norman and Viking remains and the jewels of the treasury. If you can scale the 275 steps of the Tower you will be rewarded with fantastic views of the city’s ancient streets.

The National Railway Museum
The National Railway museum has the world’s largest collection of train exhibits dating back over 300 years. You can’t fail to be impressed by the legendary engines on display here. Highlights are a replica of the Rocket, the first steam locomotive built in 1829, the Mallard, the world’s fastest steam engine, Japanese Bullet trains and the carriage used by Queen Victoria between 1869 and 1901. York Castle Museum
York Castle Museum is on the site of York Castle originally built by William theConqueror in 1068. The museum’s displays include recreated period rooms, displays of everyday life through different periods and the full size recreation of a Victorian street (Kirkgate, named after Dr. Kirk the founder). Also once used as a Prison, The former Condemned Cell, possibly once occupied by Dick Turpin can also be visited.
